Make sure your printer/All-In-One is connected to the network - if using it on a wireless network, make sure it is connected wirelessly. Also avoid any electrical interference from the all-in-one to the router (such as lights, fans, microwaves, and appliances).
If it is set up as a shared printer, Status Monitor is not supported on this configuration; on Macintosh systems it will not work, however on Windows systems it may be possible by enabling the "Allow monitoring of shared printers" option in Monitoring Preferences (accessible via the printer driver's Maintenance section).
Make sure that your firewall is not blocking files related to Status Monitor. In Windows, programs such as Status Monitor, Epson Network Utility and SAgent are required in order for the software to monitor the printer status over the network. Refer to your manufacturer's documentation for assistance.

If you are using Windows Firewall in Windows XP SP2/SP3, Windows 7 or Vista, we recommend viewing the following Related Article for help: If you are using third party commercially-available firewall software, such as those produced by Symantec (Norton), McAfee, Total Security, AVG, ZoneAlarm for example, you can use the article above for guidance on the name and location of the file(s) you need to allow through the firewall and/or add exceptions for. However, we recommend referring to the documentation supplied with your antivirus software for help on adding exceptions and configuring program access. |
It is also important to make sure that you have installed the correct printer driver for your operating system.

If your printer/All-In-One is not listed by its model name and is instead listed as 'ESC-P R', you must first update the printer driver. See the following Related Article for details: Windows 7: How to install an Epson printer using the Driver Update Service |
If Status Monitor does not work even after checking the above, then follow the advice below as appropriate for your operating system:
Open the Epson Printer Utility located in /Applications/Utilities. Open Status Monitor, then click on a specific ink cartridge and click on Update to refresh the status. For a detailed guide, see the following Related Article: How to access the printer utilities and check Status Monitor in Mac OS X
If you continue to experience issues, we recommend re-adding the printer. See the section below for help.
Do the following:
Make sure that it has either 'Bonjour', 'EPSON AppleTalk', or 'EPSON TCP/IP' in the 'Kind' column and make sure that the correct Epson printer name appears under Print Using. Then click Add on the Printer Browser screen.
To print via Bonjour, the printer and computer need to automatically obtain an IP address via the DHCP function.

If the printer is set to obtain an IP address automatically, the IP address may change each time the printer is turned on. If the IP address has changed, you will need to repeat the steps below to reconfigure the Epson Scan network settings. To keep the IP address from changing, try the following: always power on your network devices in the same order, always keep the printer on, or set your DHCP server to reserve an IP address for the printer (see your router’s documentation for details). |
If a unique IP address has been assigned to the printer, add the printer via 'EPSON TCP/IP' or 'EPSON AppleTalk'. If the printer is not listed with either of these options, do the following:

It may take up to 90 seconds for your computer to find your EPSON TCP/IP printer on the network. If you do not see the Epson printer name, look for NetworkPrinter (IP) or an entry with 'EPSON' followed by a number and '(IP)' e.g. 'EPSON4782E0 (IP)'. If you see such an entry, check that it has 'EPSON TCP/IP' in the 'Kind' column, and then click Add. Do not select the instance which lists 'Bonjour' in the 'Kind' column. In 10.5.x and 10.6.x, you may not have an EPSON AppleTalk option - you can add the printer via AppleTalk in the AppleTalk section of the printer browser. If the printer does not appear, check the printer is powered on and network connection is possible. Failing this, manually enter the printer's IP Address into the Internet address or DNS name field, then click Verify. Your printer should appear in the list, then click Add. If you receive a "Printer not found" error, check the IP Address which can be found on the network status sheet. For instructions on how to print a status sheet see the Related Articles section for article: How do I print a network status sheet? |
If you continue to experience problems viewing the ink levels over the network, we recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver. See the following Related Article for help: How to uninstall a printer driver from Mac OS X
Make sure that the EPSON Network Utility has been installed. This software is available on both the supplied Epson software CD-ROM and the Drivers & Software section of the Epson Support website for your product. This software may not have been installed if you setup your printer/All-In-One using the driver and software downloads on the Epson support website.
If you are unable to download the software from the Epson website, you will need to install the EPSON Network Utility from the CD-ROM. Exit all other open programs before starting this. You can select this via the Epson installer menu ("Epson Install Navi") or run the specific install program directly from the CD-ROM.
The instructions for these different methods are detailed below.
